| Enrolment
procedure
|
As
soon as I have Part 1 Enrolments (see below) from ten people I will
convene a one-day initial meeting in Leeds, on a Saturday or Sunday.
We will start to form the group and you will get a bit of a flavour
of what is involved on the course. You will meet people with whom
you may be working on the course itself, and of course you will
meet me. There will be an opportunity to ask any questions.
Following that, we will decide the dates for the five full course
days. Ideally these days shall be fairly close together - not more
than a month apart. This process of deciding the dates may involve
negotiating about availability etc. Participants will need to bring
their diaries, and may need to be prepared to compromise before
a final set of dates is agreed. I shall facilitate this process.
Please try to keep your weekends in November free as I am
aiming for a November course. Once the dates are agreed
I shall ask participants for a deposit of £50. Bring your
chequebook or cash. Anyone who withdraws at that point is not liable
to pay anything.
Between
the initial meeting and the first full weekend a few others may
enroll, taking the maximum number to 12. The time of the course
as advertised above – autumn 2008 - is thus provisional, as
I shall wait for ten Part 1 Enrolments before convening the initial
meeting. |
| The
initial meeting |
The
initial meeting will be in Leeds, on a Saturday or Sunday, 12.00
- 4.00pm. Please try to keep the following dates free: 4th,
5th, 11th and 12th October 2008 as I expect it to be on one of those
dates.
The programme will look something like this:
12.00
- 1.30pm Group forming
1.30 - 2.30pm We will eat together (please bring food to share).
2.30 - 4.00pm Any questions; agreeing course dates; paying deposits.

course will never happen.

Why
this enrolment
procedure? |
I
have offered this course about nine times over the past few years,
and it has run for about seven of those times. I often get people
enquire who are very interested in doing the course but are already
committed for one of the course days e.g. 'I'm already booked on XYZ
course on one of your course days' or 'I am in Canada for those weeks
- when's your next course?'. I know there is the argument that 'if
someone really wants to do the course they will make themselves available.'
However I have successfully run the above enrolment procedure once
and managed to get a well populated course, so this way I am confident
it will happen. |
