What I can offer you

I offer confidential, professional counselling/psychotherapy and clinical supervision in Leeds at two locations, in Leeds 8. My main location is Oakwood, LS8 4BA (top of Roundhay Road). I am available in Oakwood during most office hours.
I work to a professional code of ethics and practice which includes certain rules of confidentiality.

I offer you ways of thinking differently about your problem or ourself. I use all the experince that I have had over the years in different trainings, group experinces, co-teaching and experience of self-help course ('co-counselling' ) whch is open to anyone. This is a self-help therapeutic system that is conducted in pairs or small groups. It is based on techniques that come from Gestalt psychotherapy and Person-centred therapy. The training is for 5-6 days over a period of a month or two and gives you access to residential events where you can learn more about yourself. As it is a mutual exchange of support, everyone learns the same format.

1. Psychotherapy and Counselling

Psychotherapy and counselling are one form of 'personal development'. They offer ways of looking at your problems and the part you play in these problems. You may have a deep-seated issue that has preoccupied you for many years, you may have a problem at work, or you may want to talk through a decision that you cannot make, so the nature of your predicament may determine whether you come for a short time or for longer. The depth of your work will depend on what you need or on what you are prepared to face, and we would discuss this.

Significant events may include: loss, divorce, relationship or social difficulties, death, redundancy, forms of abuse, adoption, identitiy issues. Other issues may be concerned with: feeling depressed, high anxiety, unhappiness, disillusionment, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, emotional difficulties around food, sexual identity or other sexual problems, work-related issues, family conflicts.

At times, your therapy/counselling will feel painful and upsetting, and at other times you may feel confident. You may experience relief at being able to talk about something that has never been talked about before. You may find it extremely difficult to talk. The process of therapy is an unfolding of knotted issues that cause emotional distress and talking in therapy can help to untangle some of those knots. There is no quick-fix solution but what I offer is a way of working that helps you to understand yourself better and how you relate to others. I would hope to provide you with an experience that could change aspects of your life and relationships for the better.

I offer an intial appointment plus several appointments to start with to give you time to make a decision about attending. If we continue to meet, we will meet regularly, either once weekly, or twice or more weekly, at the same time(s) each week.

Please call me for an initial discussion or leave me your message: (0113) 262 5783. If my telephone is on ansaphone, leave me your number and a time when I can call you back.

2. Self-help Course - Autumn 2010 in Leeds

This Course helps with self-confidence, learning and practising being assertive, learning and practising speaking out in a group, learning to identify and express your wishes or needs, giving and receiving support in a confidential and enabling space. Nothing is compulsory so you can go at your own pace.

The Course consists of 6 days (at weekends) of learning the tools to use with one another or in a group. You work in pairs initially and this can be expanded to a group. The system is taught worldwide and the interventions are taught in a set format, with the exception of a course in Scotland, so that there is a shared ethos and understanding from the start. See the website for more details:

3. Clinical Supervision/ Consultation

I offer clinical supervision for practitioners who think psychodynamically about their work and who want to work with these concepts. We will meet either weekly, fortnightly or monthly at an agreed time at the same time each week, for 50 minutes. The fee for each session is £45, or £40 for self-paying trainees.

I bring to my work different experiences of clinical supervision: groups, peer and individual, together with the exacting training in psychotherapy which informs the way I think about the work. Robert Hobson described aspects of supervision thus: "we cannot report to others what we do not know has happened" (1985). I think this sums up the nature of the task in hand.

To book an intial appointment, contact me either by phone or email: 0113 262 5783/ kristal@kristalclark.com

3. Couples Counselling

I offer a space where you talk through your relationship with me. I offer you both time to describe what you think is happening and I will give my thoughts in response. the aim of the work together is to reach some clarity about what is causing your difficulties and therefore to empower you both to make changes.
