A personal introduction

I have felt passionately about the benefits of therapeutic intervention since beginning formal study in 1995. I wanted to understand myself - to know what my feelings meant and to feel free to express myself rather than censoring myself. I therefore wanted to share from my own experiences by becoming a psychotherapist. Personal therapy has been a supportive and insightful experience for me and which I hope will be the same for you, if you choose to take this path.
I believe that personal growth is an on-going process that can last for a lifetime and it is something you can come in and out of at different times in your life. Sometimes you may want a short time and sometimes you may need a long time.
I see therapy as an opportunity rather than a chore.

Whilst I believe that our life journey is individual to each of us, I believe that we share inner emotional experiences. You will have thoughts that you do not want to share and you will have dreams some of which you remember and others you do not remember. You are capable of experiencing a range of emotions and you may choose to not feel them. You may choose to block out certain thoughts or let your thoughts run. There are truths about yourself that you may keep hidden for many years and truths that you desperately want to talk about but are afraid to do so. My own experience of talking and sharing of myself with therapists, in a confidential setting, has been one way of releasing mental or emotional tensions and fears. It has helped me to see things more clearly and has helped me become more aware of my thoughts and actions so that I can make informed decisions about aspects of my life instead of feeling at the mercy of my emotions.

Alongside my therapy practice, I assist on an annual 'co-counselling' self-help course which helps with confidence-building, re-evaluating yourself and your relationships, expressing yuorself more openly, possibly some goal-setting.

I maintain a regular yoga self-practice and teaching. Yoga is also a sysem of therapeutic help which is based upon the physical and the psychological. It is another system which brings self-awareness in a less in-depth way than the psychotherapeutic method.
As there are no guarantees in any process, the benefits will depend on your commitment and engagement with any of these forms.
